My christmas was hellish this year. I wasn’t allowed to open my presents until 2:45 in the afternoon, I didn’t even get half my presents ’til Boxing day, and one of my best ones (a graphic tablet) hadn’t been mac-cleared (ie. it was windows only) so my Uncle had to get a new one. Continue Reading»

Everyone in england has seen them- hanging around parks in tracksuits, smoking or binge drinking, and generally being a pain in the ass. I’m talking, of course, about chavs. so heres a reference that will help the non-savvy out there to understand the psychology (or lack thereof) of these lesser beings.

1. Anyone listening to music considered to be goth, greb or emo (basically rock in general) is your enemy. They must be jeered at, happy slapped (I’ll get on to that in a minute) or otherwise intimidated.

2. You must be as racist and close-minded as possible, whilst still being blind to the fact that many of your favourite rap (retards attempting poetry) or R&B “artists” (I use the term loosely) are black or non-white. you must also hate americans like bird flu, even though many of the f***ing yankee b******s are said “artists”.

3. If you are caught attacking another person, you must say either: “we were only ‘avin a laff” or “we was only ‘appy-slappin’ him”. Fun fact: England, February 14, 2007: One youth - out of a group of eight - set upon a 31 year-old man in Brighton, who turned out to be an amateur boxer. Two of the youths were hospitalised by the intended victim and four arrested for causing an affray. Chavs: 0 Public: 1.

4. if you are seen to not be wearing a tracksuit in public or walking around with your parents, you are to be considered “gay” and go top of the hit list for “happy-slapping”.

5. getting good grades is the sign of a gay. anyone who does so will be happy-slapped, jeered at, bullied, or in extreme cases shot.

6. If you do not own an air rifle you are nothing. you need a weapon, and the cheapest projectile weapon available (because chavs are generally poor) is (drum roll please) an air rifle! it is also good to carry a knife, and these are stealable from any kitchen you might come across.

7. you must shoplift. you are to be considered as a gay if you do not. it doesn’t matter what you take, magazines, sweets, even cigarettes. but you must do it.

I might add some more as i think of it, but thats all for now.

Annoyance rating- 8/5, bacuse i am classed as both a nerd and a greb by the chav community.

I’ve recently been testing my Dad’s website in Safari, that obscure browser from Apple that killed off IE for the Mac. Now, most of my browsing is done in Mozilla Firefox, but, as i say, I was testing code, so I thought to myself - Hey, why don’t I use this, ’cause i already have it open. So I’m browsing, and i Option-Enter to open a new tab, and it saves the page. so i use exposé to get to my finder window, from which i have to drag the link off my desktop and into the trash, open exposé again, switch back to Safari, at which point i have no idea how to open tabs. i updated my firmware to OS 10.4.11 this morning, and it said it came with Safari 3, and the mac I used at the Apple store had tabs in Safari, so what’s with that?? Also, the backgrounds on many of my images for the Website change in Safari to slightly noticably different, where as in firefox, IE7, IE6 and Opera, they blend seamlessly into the background.. In Safari, they have a sort of greeny tint that isn’t “rgb(173,216,230)” like it should be. It makes it look ugly, and it pisses me off.

In conclusion: Safari sucks as bad as IE. and that’s saying something.

This is the first blog post by LifeHacker, and I hope to do many more in the future.

Today’s post is entitled “why the youtube hate?”. that is probably confusing to most of you , so I’d better expand on it. As a youtube user and contributor, it has come to my attention that there are many comments that say ungrounded and in many cases untrue statements like “mac is teh suxx n00bs” or “lol this music video sucks”. to those people i have to say 2 things:

1) why don’t you actually use one, and start giving logical arguements.

2) if you dont like it listen to something else.

I HATE FLAMERS! THIS IS WHAT WILL HAPPEN TO THEM!

But what really annoys me is that many of these posters (or should i say posers) have no experience in what they type (without thinking), and if they actually gave the things they bash a chance, then maybe they would appreciate it rather than taking the easy route and going with the crowd. i focus specifically on the “mac is teh suxx” thing. lots of these B******s are probably 14-year-old chavs who don’t know what a Mac is, edit their “customised” Bebo pages ( using incorrect HTML they got from copy-and-paste websites) in IE, because in their minds, it’s the only thing out there, and just accept that they get viruses every other day (I suppose you can’t miss what you’ve never had). I use an Apple eMac running Mac OS 10.4 Tiger, which i saved for 6 months for, and a Packard Bell PC running Ubuntu 7.10 Gutsy Gibbon, on which i trained my non-techy parents to use linux. They work great. I code in CSS, Javascript, and XHTML, and I feel better for it. My web browser is Mozilla Firefox 2.0.0.9, and i do all my code testing in that and Safari. At this time I’m writing a website for my dad, and It looks really good. It’s all hand-coded, apart from some writing i did in Dreamweaver. For the posers on Youtube:

Just try these things before you hate on them, or if you won’t do that, go and listen to your Akon and troubleshoot your Wintel Laptop for the 50th time and dont bother us about it.
